Six Reasons People Choose Usiawan
These are the practical advantages that participants most often mention when they explain why they keep coming back.
Small, Known Groups
Sessions are capped at a small number so every participant knows who they are moving with. You are not a face in a crowd — you are a regular member of a specific group.
Genuinely Gentle Pace
We do not use the word "gentle" loosely. Sessions are designed around what older adults find natural, and there is always a seated alternative for every standing activity.
Rooted in Kuching
Our sessions, materials, and social outings are planned around Kuching life. No flights, no online-only access — just consistent, local sessions you can walk or drive to.
Tea and Social Time Built In
Every session includes a rest and chat. This is not an optional extra — it is part of what we provide, because connection and relaxation matter as much as the movement itself.
Something to Take Home
Every session comes with a clearly printed summary. Written in large type and plain English, these sheets help participants (and their families) see exactly what was covered.
Flexible Starting Points
You can begin with a single morning session to see how it feels, move into a coaching series, or join as a full member. There is no pressure to commit to more than you want.
In More Detail
What Each Benefit Means in Practice
Community Experience and Local Knowledge
The facilitators at Usiawan have spent years working in community and adult education settings across Sarawak. They understand how older adults learn, what puts people at ease, and how to read a room when energy levels shift.
That local knowledge matters. They know the Kuching schedule — the festivals, the weather, the rhythms of daily life — and they plan sessions around what actually suits participants rather than an imported template.
A Thoughtful, Consistent Process
Every session follows a structured but relaxed flow: a gentle warm-up, the main activity, a rest and social break, and a brief recap. This predictable rhythm helps participants feel comfortable and know what to expect each time they come.
The printed summary is prepared before each session and covers what was done, any variations that were offered, and a simple suggestion for staying active between sessions.
Personal Attention Within a Group Setting
By keeping sessions small, our facilitators can check in with each participant individually during the session — noticing when someone needs a different variation, a pause, or just an encouraging word.
New participants receive a brief one-on-one welcome before their first session so they know what to expect, who will be there, and where to find the accessible seating.
Honest, Transparent Pricing
All three programmes have a fixed price with no hidden add-ons. The Gentle Morning Group is RM 460 for a single session. Active Weeks Coaching is RM 1,800 for the full series. The Active Living Membership is RM 4,200 per year.
What each price covers is stated clearly when you enquire, and we are happy to walk through the details before you commit to anything.

What Sets Us Apart
Things You Will Not Find Elsewhere
A Session That Ends With Tea and Conversation
Most movement programmes end when the activity ends. Usiawan always includes a social rest period because we know that the friendships formed over a cup of tea are often the main reason participants keep showing up week after week.
Printed Materials in Large, Readable Type
Our take-home summaries are printed at a font size that is actually comfortable to read without glasses. They use plain language and are formatted so that family members can understand them too — making it easy to continue gentle activity at home.
A Try-First, Commit-Later Approach
The Gentle Morning Group is a self-contained single session designed as a comfortable introduction. There is no obligation to join anything else. If it feels right, the other programmes are there. If not, you have still had a pleasant morning out.
Community Outings as Part of Membership
Active Living Members are invited to seasonal outings — walks in local parks, visits to Kuching's waterfront, and other group activities suited to the time of year. These are included in the membership and planned with comfort and accessibility in mind.
